Ready to rock your knitted socks off
Originally formed as a mellow acoustic duo, Grandma's Favorites has evolved into an high-energy electric power trio with a knack for turning familiar sounds into something fresh and unpredictable. Rooted in rock but never confined by it, the band weaves touches of jazz, Americana, pop, and country into their lively sets. Inspired by artists like Elton John, Van Halen, the Grateful Dead, and Radiohead, Grandma's Favorites mixes beloved covers with original songs that range from thoughtful to gritty to goofy.
Their music often shifts directions unexpectedly, leaving room for improvisation, extended jams, and moments that are never played the same way twice. Though all three members share lead and harmony vocals, much of the songwriting comes from guitarist Jacob Bayani and bassist Quinn Becker, whose musical partnership began in college and continues in Grandma's Favorites and their other band, the New Horizons. While you've probably seen him in Love Creek, drummer Malakai Lawton brings plenty of experience from teaching music as well as playing alongside Quinn in Jianna and the Cruzers.
Made up entirely of local musicians and longtime collaborators, Grandma's Favorites brings together years of shared history, different musical backgrounds, and a genuine love of playing music. This performance also marks the band's debut as a trio — and their first show with Malakai behind the drums — giving familiar songs and original material alike a fresh new energy.
